Dr. J. Isabelle Choi Named to Crain's New York

We are delighted to announce that Dr. J. Isabelle Choi, Clinical Director and Director of Research at the New York Proton Center and Radiation Oncology Attending at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, has been selected by Crain’s New York Business as one of this year’s 40 Under 40 honorees!

A nationally recognized expert in the use of proton therapy to treat breast cancer, Dr. Choi has been an integral part of NYPC since its inception in 2019. As our Director of Research, she has led critical research efforts focused on improving outcomes, reducing toxicities, and more effectively delivering radiotherapy for patients with breast and gastrointestinal malignancies in an effort to improve treatment outcomes and public awareness of the cutting-edge treatment modality.

Crain’s reporter Amanda D’Ambrosio wrote in the publication’s November 6 issue that Dr. Choi “was struck by the potential for the treatment to improve the lives of cancer patients.” She recognized that proton therapy had the potential to make a hugely positive impact on cancer care, but she “also recognized that research was needed to improve clinical outcomes and access.” Dr. Choi says she saw joining the New York Proton Center team as an opportunity to “deliver cancer care in the way… I think cancer care should be delivered.” In her role as Clinical Director, she has developed the clinic around a culture of excellence in patient care, ensuring that every patient is treated with an unparalleled level of individualized and empathetic care. Beyond her impactful research efforts, NYPC’s CEO Jonathan Weinbach emphasizes that “the care [Dr. Choi] shows every patient is world class” (Crain’s New York Business).

Dr. Choi holds national and international leadership positions in both the proton therapy and conventional radiation therapy communities. Among these appointments, Dr. Choi is Chair of the Proton Collaborative Group (PCG) Breast Committee, Chair of the PCG Publications Committee, Chair of the National Association for Proton Therapy’s Physician Advisory Committee, Chair of the American College of Radiation Oncology (ACRO) Breast Pathway Committee and ACRO Annual Meeting Abstracts Committee. She was one of just three radiation oncologists in the United States elected a Fellow of the American College of Radiation Oncology (FACRO) in 2023.

Congratulations to Dr. Choi for this incredibly well-deserved recognition! Dr. Choi is an incredible force, and we are proud to have her on our team.
